Congratulations to all of the swimmers who competed at NCAAs this week. The NESCAC had some great showings including 5 event wins (out of 13 individual events in the meet). Here's a highlight of some of them.
John Dillon: Swimmer of the Meet on the men's side. Wins in the 100 (47.58) and 200 fly (1:45.01, NCAA Record) and a second place finish in the 200 back 1:47.27 in addition to a 1:39.1 200 free leadoff amid a number of other great relay swims. Led Middlebury to a 7th place finish in the meet. Not enough can really be said for how impressive his meet was.
Alex Fraser: Wins in the 200 and 500 free and 3rd place in the 100 free. 137.4 on the end of the 8 free relay. Clutch finishes to bring home his wins as he made big moves near the end of the races. One of only 3 men in the meet to win two events (Dillon and Turk were the others).
Ryan Lichtenfels: Winning the 1650 (Kenyon's first defeat in the event in 20 years) in impressive fashion, in addition to NESCAC record 3:55.4 400 IM for 3rd place and 5th place in the 500 free. His 138.6 leading off Amherst's second place 800 free relay would've placed him second in the event individually behind Fraser.
Gary Roberson: Three top 8 finishes, including 3rd place in the 200 free. He really surprised me with his speed, as the 200 free was a huge drop from previous years.
Ben Wampler: 2nd place in the 100 free, 6th in the 50.
Team totals were:
5. Amherst - 217
7. Middlebury - 180
9. Williams - 160
18. Tufts - 51
39. Conn College - 13
