OT: Chris GreenwoodPretty cool and unrelated to swimming. But Chris Greenwood, CB at Albion, just got drafted by the Detroit Lions in the 5th round. 148th overall.
Re: OT: Chris GreenwoodThat is pretty cool. Any background about this guy you can share (how he ended up d3?)?
Thank you Mario! But our princess is in another castle!
Re: OT: Chris Greenwood
I think he was a transfer from Eastern Michigan. Read in a local newspaper that there have been 3 D3 players drafted in the past 5 years or so and they have all played in the NFL now. [ Post made via iPhone ]
Re: OT: Chris GreenwoodWent to high school in Detroit - Detroit King High to be exact. Attended Northwood first, then transferred to EMU because he didn't like the program at Northwood. Transferred to EMU but didn't play a down because the transfer would have required him to sit out a full year. From there he transferred to Albion.
He ended up D3 pretty much because his talent level was never outstanding until he developed at Albion, which kind of makes it more impressive that he became as good as he is.
Re: OT: Chris Greenwood
6'2" 190 lbs and a 4.30 40. Those aren't things you can coach. Most analysts are saying he's got a lot of raw talent but needs to be developed. Still though, very cool for Albion and looks like a good 5th round pick by the Lions "White people like Wayne Brady because he makes Bryant Gumbel look like Malcolm X."
Re: OT: Chris GreenwoodHe went officially unranked as a high school prospect by the two major recruiting services, which is why he ended up playing in D2, then eventually D3. He simply was not that great of a player in high school. He has been quoted as saying that he ended up at Albion because there simply was almost nowhere else for him to go. So clearly he went through serious development as a football player while in college - not uncommon. You are right though, his measurables are off the charts. (43 inch vertical as well)
Re: OT: Chris GreenwoodWhat I love about this guy is that he is underdeveloped. And until then, he may get beat by better receivers, but with that speed and vertical, he will have no problems catching up or knocking down passes.
Don't be afraid of losing. Be terrified of being forgotten.
