What do you predict for nationals? Who is going to shine, who is not?

Not to start any Kenyon hating, but Jim Steen when asked, stated that his men's relays were, "not great, but good."

Ummm, 4 relay national records the year AFTER the suits plus winning the 8 FR by 6 seconds, not sure if it gets any better. What would "great" be?

As you guys know, I have the inside on Kenyon stuff. I can say that Steen wasn't 100% happy with the overall performance of the relays. He was very happy with the 400 free, but not so happy with many of the others.

I find it very surprising too. In my mind, they were ridiculously fast WITHOUT the suits. I know him well, but I don't understand why he's not super thrilled by the performances...go figure.

Gotta give those first and second-year swimmers SOMETHING to shoot for next year... If it were a bunch of seniors I am sure he would've said he was happy with them.

In defense of Jim - he did make that statement BEFORE their last relay. Frankly, I was just happy we could get him on camera because that's not something he does often. As Sean said though - that drive is one of the things that makes him the absolute best. Another one is his drive. Not long after this, he left to go meet with a recruit. Enough coaches are frazzled enough by the prospect of a National Championship meet, but to also keep your eyes on the big picture including recruiting and his work with alumni - that's a rare gift.

Bill Plaschke of the LA Times used his time on Around the Horn today to give the Lords a shout-out. Apparently his son goes to Kenyon.

That is fantastic, and no I do not have the same experience with Jim Steen as most of the people on here, but my one meeting with him outside of the pool was a memorable one. I was really impressed with him as a person. I knew he could coach the crap out of this sport, but I did not know how decent of a guy he was until I met him.
